Old Navy Goes Dark & Sleek

Old Navy have cottoned on to the latest denim trend and introduced a range of skinny jeans in dark washes. As well as the standard deep blue they also have dark gray, brown and black. From the photo above they don't look half bad and you certainly can't argue with the price - a very reasonable $34.50-$39.50.

Denimology In The News

Denimology got a great mention in UK newspaper The Daily Telegraph last week. The article (which I can highly recommend) is about the return of dark, slim, high waisted 1980s style jeans such as the Jordache jeans worn above by Elizabeth Hurley.

Jeans - A Cultural History Of An American Icon

If you have more than a passing interest in denim then you might want to check out Jeans - A Cultural History Of An American Icon by James Sullivan. It tells the story of an item of clothing that was once the uniform of miners and cowboys but is now more commonly worn by presidents and supermodels. Along the way it details the rise premum denim from the 80s designer jeans such Jordache, Gloria Vanderbilt and Calvin Klein to the ubiquity of modern brands such as 7 For All Makind and True Religion.

Net-A-Porter High Fashion Denim

In my opinion the online European fashion store net-a-porter.com carries the best range of high fashion premium denim on the internet. They have all the usual women's jeans brands such as Citizens of Humanity, True Religion and J Brand but also have stuff like Stella McCartney, Marc By Marc Jacobs, Roberto Cavalli, Alexander McQueen and Chloe. They have just published a new denim style guide recommending jeans and outfits for different body types - tall, slim, curvaceous, etc. If you have plenty of money to spend and want to get yourself pair of jeans that you won't see on every other person on the high street then net-a-porter.com is worth checking out.

J Brand - The Celebs Favourite Skinny Jeans

J Brand seem to be the celebs No 1 favourite skinny jeans at the moment. Earlier this week I posted some photos of Kate Beckinsale looking luscious in a pair of J Brand Jeans. Now the first pair of jeans Angelina Jolie (see above) put on after getting back to her pre-baby weight were her black J Brands. Seems like this denim brand is currently experiencing the "perfect storm" of celebrity related publicity.

Levi's iPod Jeans

A couple of months ago I mentioned that Levi's had decided to create a special pair of iPod jeans. I was hoping that the blanket negative publicity that surrounded the original announcement may have made Levi's realise the error of their ways and bury this idea. Unfortunately they decided to follow it through and the results are now available for everyone to see.

Usually anything associated with the iconic iPod benefits from some reflected cool but these jeans actually manage to have the reverse effect of making the the iPod look crappy. Everything about these jeans is wrong from the colour and horrible white stitching to the ugly pockets and what I assume is a remote control. These are the kind of jeans that if you wore them to school you would be justifiably bullied for the rest of the year because of it.
