Siwy Jeans - Designer Q & A

This week's designer Q&A is from Michelle Siwy of Siwy Jeans who not only designs jeans that make women look great but is also obviously a true denim lover.

1) Why do you think after 200 years jeans are still the most popular item of clothing.

The creation of the fabric it self is a phenomenon. Initially worn by heavy-duty laborers because it did not wear out as fast as others. Over the years, it translated into many styles through out the decades. Now, more than ever they are worn more frequently from people of all social classes. Fits have been updated and advances in denim fabric have taken place. It’s a dependable fashion that is comforting and familiar. It’s something that has become a personal experience to the owner. There are lots of emotional connections to jeans .The shading and color becomes your own over time. Gradation and subtle variation within yard textures and color show your personality.

2) Last time I counted there were over 50 brands of premium denim jeans,what makes Siwy Jeans stand out from the rest?

It’s true that there is a sea of denim offerings out there, but the competition is cut in half because most do not deliver what they say do. Of the labels that are left, they truly have something unique and different to add. Denim has become so refined and our tastes have become so refined, that people crave options. I feel I am still filling a void for jeans that are working with a woman’s body and not against it. I try to provide style options that are just as technical in fit as they are beautiful.

3) Who do you imagine is a typical Siwy Jeans customer?

A person who is a free thinker that appreciates art, beauty and design.

Victoria Beckham Splits With Rock & Republic

Last week Victoria Beckham split with Rock & Republic whom she has been producing a very successfull line of jeans since Sept 2004. As was previously reported Victoria will now be launching her own range of jeans under the brand DVB. It is thought that the jeans will be produced by Canadian firm Western Glove Works Ltd the makers of 1921 Jeans whom Victoria met back in August. As far as I am concerned anything that stops Posh Spice trying to resurrect her singing career has got to be a good thing.

Celebrity Halloween Denim - Kate Moss

Been invited to a Halloween Party and not sure what to go as? Then why not try dressing up as Kate Moss who looks pretty ghoulish in her black boots, grey skinny Superfine Jeans and short Dracula style black Dior Homme cape at a recent Babyshambles gig. The fake blood or is it red wine (see photo after contined) and junkie boyfriend is optional.

Celebrity Denim - Jude Law

If you are a regular reader of this site you will know that I am a big fan of skinny jeans on women. Skinny jeans on men is a different matter entirely, if you are a young skinny rock star you just might just be able to pull it off, every other male should just leave this trend well alone. And that even includes internationally famous sex symbol actors like Jude Law.

Celebrity Denim - Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan appears in a blog/gossip column/celeb mag every single day of the year and here is yet another item to add to the tsunami of publicity. There's not much to say other than she has some great Hollywood hair and looks very tasty in her faded Habitual bootcut jeans. I particularly like the pocket design that's reminiscent of the German WWII Iron Cross insignia which I think is a pretty intriguing choice of logo for an all American brand.
