Designer Q & A - Fidelity Denim

This week's Designer Q&A is with Jason Trotzuk, Founder, Designer and President of Fidelity Denim.

1) Why do you think after 200 years jeans are still one of the most popular items of clothing.

Jeans have remained the most popular because they are the clothing for the common man, the working man, therefore they are real and credible...jeans never lie!!!

2) Last time I counted there were over 50 brands of premium denim jeans, what makes your jeans stand out from the rest.

Fidelity, is the "new luxury" in denim, Fidelity works from the three "F” principal; Fabric Fit and Finish...I use the best fabrics that will keep up with her busy day, the fits must accent her assets and the finishes are soft and subtle so that they work with everything in her wardrobe. Easy to say, difficult to do, "If you look at my jeans and take them for a spin, you’ll fall in love" - that’s Fidelity baby!

3) Who do you imagine is your typical customer.

Today’s woman: Bold, bright, energetic, risk taker, zest for love and life!!!

4) Which style and wash of your jeans are flying out of the shops the quickest at the moment?

Belladonna (mid rise), Japan Rose (skinny flare), Plumaria, (skinny)

5) Are there any essential jeans that everyone should have in their wardrobe.

Fidelity, Tiger Lily (boot cut), Plumaria (skinny), Levi’s 501’s

6) What are the first pair of jeans you remember?

501’s of course..being Canadian, I remember staying with an American Family and getting my first pair of levi 501’s

7) What have been your favourite pair of jeans that you have owned?

Obscure brand called Milk and roses....around in early 90’s..never to be seen again...boo

8) What have been your favourite pair of jeans that you have produced?

Previous brand of mine..I made the "Impala" jean...way before it’s time..the first jean to incorporate darts instead of a back yoke...I was the first Another great jean I have made was the Fidelity "Plumaria"....a jean for the ages!!

9) How many pairs of jeans do you currently own and which are your favourites?

I OWN 20 PAIR..,My mens Fidelity "Charger" jean is my new favorite...Levi’s big "E" skinner is also a keeper

10) Are you a "wash your jeans after each wear" person or a "wear your jeans for six months before you wash them" person?

I am a "wear em for 6 months before I wash them" for sure!!!!!!

11) Do you own jeans for different occasions (for instance I have work jeans, smart jeans, weekend jeans, holiday jeans, jeans for going to concerts in, jeans for gardening in) if so what have you got?

I have jeans for every occasion:
- Thrash jeans (501 skinny) - Rock jeans (Fidelity Charger) - Anti establishment jeans w/ great ass (PRPS) - Dress jeans (Fidelity or Seven)

12) Which is your favourite jeans shop?

Over the Rainbow (Toronto) Atrium (NYC)

13) Which celebs are currently wearing your jeans?

Lindsay L, Demi, Jessica Alba, Halle Berry, Sharon Stone, Vanessa Manillo.

14) How important big an effect does it have on your sales when a celeb is seen wearing a pair of your jeans?

8 out of 10!

15) Who is your current favourite denim icon (male & female). I am thinking the person who has the most denim style?

Sienna Miller has great denim style! Bruce Springsteen is synonymous with Blue Jeans

16) Which character (male & female) from a movie had the most denim style?

James Dean, Marlon Brando, Brad Pitt in Selma and Louise

17) Which person living or dead would you most like to see in a pair of your jeans?

Lady Diana Spencer// Gianni Versace// Ralph Lauren

18) If denim jeans had not been invented, what would we all be wearing?

Rugby pants!! Or cargo’s...man I love when cargo’s are in cause you have pockets to put stuff in!

19) And finally, any predictions for future trends in denim jeans?

The future of denim will see Fidelity lead the way!!!!
