Designer Q & A - Frankie B Jeans

This week's Designer Q&A is with Daniella Clarke, Founder/Designer Of Frankie B Jeans.

1) Why do you think after 200 years jeans are still one of the most popular items of clothing.

Jeans are a staple in everyone’s closet because they are so easily matched with everything, as in a sexy top to a t-shirt or sweater, heels or flats, boots or sneakers.

2) There really are a lot of brands out there now. When we first started 8 years ago there was only 1 other premium denim brand. I think we stuck around because we have such a unique fit that we have become known for.

Last time I counted there were over 50 brands of premium denim jeans, what makes Frankie B Jeans stand out from the rest.

3) Who do you imagine is a typical Frankie B Jeans customer.

4) Are there any essential jeans that everyone should have in their wardrobe.

Everyone should have a nice clean dark straight leg jean with no embellishment and no wear and tear.

5) Which style and wash of Frankie B Jeans are flying out of the shops the quickest at the moment?

At the moment our skinny grey jeans (see above) are very popular.

6) What are the first pair of jeans you remember?

My first love affair with jeans started in the early 80’s when I found a brand called Dittos. I was obsessed! I thought I was the hottest thing going when I wore those jeans, so I slept in them.

7) What have been your favourite pair of jeans that you have owned?

My personal favorite jeans that we have produced are my big wide leg jeans that I have worn to death.

8) How many pairs of jeans do you currently own and which are your favourites?

I own way too many jeans to count. I would say I probably have about 70-100 pairs but I love them all equally.

9) Are you a "wash your jeans after each wear" person or a "wear your jeans for six months before you wash them" person?

I hardly ever wash my jeans unless they walk over to the washing machines themselves. I’m so disgusting!

10) Do you own jeans for different occasions (for instance I have work jeans, smart jeans, weekend jeans, holiday jeans, jeans for going to concerts in, jeans for gardening in) if so what have you got?

Not only do I have a jean for every occasion, like one for going out at night to a club versus one for a nice restaurant, but I also have my ‘fat’ jeans for when I’m a little heavier and my ‘skinny’ jeans for when I’m on my thin side. I’m a women, my weight fluctuates, so my closet needs to accommodate my needs.

11) Which is your favourite jeans shop?

My favorite jean shop is my closet!

12) Which celebs are currently wearing your jeans and how important big an effect does it have on your sales when a celeb is seen wearing a pair of your jeans?

Jessica Simpson and Sienna Miller have been great supporters of Frankie B. lately. Whenever a gorgeous girl, such as them, wears our jeans of course they get a lot of attention and that certainly doesn’t suck for us. We definitely notice a surge in interest when a celebrity is photographed in a particular jean.

13) Who is your current favourite denim icon (male & female). I am thinking the person who has the most denim style?

I think the current icon for denim is Kate Moss and in the 70’s it was Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin.

14) Which character (male & female) from a movie had the most denim style?

The character in movies that had the most denim style hands down was James Dean.
