Moschino Fall/Winter 2007 Show in New York

Moschino's Fall/Winter 2007 Show in New York included lots of dark, slim straight leg jeans which like the Dolce & Gabbana jeans reminded me of the stuff that Nudie has been knocking out for a while. The colour and contrast of the dark denim and bright orange stitching on the Moschino jeans was particularly reminiscent of Nudie's raw denim range. Even so, Moschino's denim collection was pretty hip and showed that slim/skinny jeans for men will be around for a while longer.

Dolce & Gabbana Fall/Winter 2007 Show in NY

The jeans on show at the Dolce & Gabbana Fall/Winter 2007 Show in New York reminded me a lot of the raw denim that Nudie has been making for a few years now. The fact that there were combined with comfy jumpers and cardigans (albeit shiny silver and gold ones) made the models look quite nerdy, which was unexpected for a brand that is usually associated with glamour.

Warhol Factory X Levi's Collection

Levi's and The Andy Warhol Foundation have collaborated to produce the Warhol Factory X Levi's Collection. Apparently this range of men's and women's clothing takes its inspiration from Warhol’s "idea of life and death and the complex ideas of religion and the afterlife". More specifially the clothing uses elements of Andy Warhol’s Time Capsule artworks printed on the jeans, jackets and t-shirts all of which have a 1960s beatnik feel to them. (Source: HypeBeast)

Diesel Fall/Winter 2007 Show in New York

Diesel proved that can still a thing or two about producing cool and interesting looking jeans at their Fall/Winter 2007 Show in New York. The denim on show was mainly in black and dark grey and had a new wave goth type feel to it. They also took the current trend for high-waisted jeans to an extreme with the rib-tickling pair of jeans above, which I think even the most dedicated fashionista might think twice about.

Designer Q&A - 18th Amendment

This week's Designer Q&A is with Rebecca Dawson, Designer of 18th Amendment Jeans.

1) Why do you think after 200 years jeans are still one of the most popular items of clothing?

Denim holds history, it's iconic. At various points in history jeans have made certain statements eg: for over a century they were workwear, the uniform of the working class. In the 50s they and 60s they represented anti-establishment rocker and beat cultures. Later on they were key in the punk rock movement. Jeans are the most versatile and durable of all wardrobe staples. They stand the test of time both physically and in our psyche. One can never underestimate the influence nostalgia has on what we wear.

2) Last time I counted there were over 50 brands of premium denim jeans, what makes your jeans stand out from the rest?
18th Amendment jeans have a fashion focus not shared by the majority of denim labels. Our fabrics, finishings and detailing also have a unique point of view in an overly generic denim market.
