TopShop Denim "Inspired" By Style Blogger's Dad

We are all used to high street stores being "inspired" (read: ripping off) looks from the designer catwalks, but did you know they are also similarly "inspired" (again read: ripping off) by style bloggers? No me neither but check out the evidence, earlier this year the Frances who writes HappyBecause appeared on street style blog Facehunter and in The Guardian wearing a pair of her father's old jeans that he had customized himself back in the 70s. Fast forward to December 2010 and TopShop start selling an almost identical pair of patched up boyfriend jeans. It just goes to show the amount of influence that style bloggers are having on the fashion world these days ... and also how cheeky the designers at TopShop are.

  I see where you're coming from, but it really is just a pair of jeans with a few patches.
  About million people across the world will of made some or owned something similar.
  And even the people in my textiles class - who don't give a toss about fashion - would make the connection that if you were going to put patches on jeans - you'd choose denim and brown. Cos everyone knows they go.
  And Frances doesn't even like TopShop. Probably cos she thinks she's too cool for that

  I am really surprised that no one else is agreeing with me. The size, colour and amount of patches seem to be just a little to similar to be a coincidence.

  While I did think that at first as well, the resemblance and choice of colors is very similar especially if you reverse the patches. TopShop is a great outlet with fashionable choices for the masses so it would not surprise me if they were inspired by one small part of the mass public.
