The Mystery Of The (Invisible) Colored Jeans

We have been showing lots of colored jeans on Denimology lately. They are present in every denim lookbook I receive, fashion mags love them and style bloggers have been photographing themselves wearing them since Spring. So I decided to check out "Reality".
Here is what I found: At Bloomingdales you see Rag and Bone, J Brand, Current/Elliot and of course, 7 for all Mankind Jeans and on and on - all of them showing their "true" colors. But on the racks at the fitting rooms (this is where to look when you want to know what people are trying on = thinking of buying), I see no color, and I mean NO color, not even a random red or green. I see lots of whites, and blues in all shades and shapes but no colors. Ok, maybe Bloomingdales is not a trend setter, so I am heading over to Barney's Coop on Madison Avenue, which is really THE place to find the newest and hottest denim trends. Repeating my story of the shelves and store racks full of colors - they do have one whole big section of the Coop floor filled with colored denim shorts - I still see no one, not even the sales staff there wearing any color. But Bloomies, Barneys and Intermix sales associates all swear they are selling tons of colored jeans, especially red and blue ones and, on a lesser scale, pink and yellow colored jeans. Furthermore, whilst doing my "research" in the Upper East Side and downtown Soho in NYC I didn't come across anyone wearing colored denim on the streets either.
So, WHERE ARE THE COLORED JEANS IN "REAL LIFE"????? I mean, I don't see colored jeans out there, but if people are buying them, where are they going?!?!? This could be the biggest urban mystery since alligators roamed the New York City sewers.
