The Wall Street Journal have a very interesting article on the business of premium denim, which looks at how True Religion's new Phantom jeans will come to cost you $300. If you don't have time to read the article, the short answer is - the raw materials cost around $50. The manufacturer sells the jeans to the retailer for around $140 who will then multiply the wholesale price by somewhere between 2.2 to 2.6 to reach of final price to the buyer of over $300.
