Matt Style - Edwin ED-71
It's been a crazy past few weeks involving me moving house, starting a new job, travelling and being without the internet for over a month. How I've survived I have no idea.
Despite it all, the weather has been getting somewhat better and the sun is showing face meaning I can finally take some decent pictures. The latest pair I've been road testing are the Raw Red Selvage Ed71's from the denim experts, Edwin. The ED71's are slimmer fitting in comparison to the classic ED-47's but remain close it rigidity weighing in at a hefty 14 oz. The fit is a little baggy around the calf which to be honest you'll be longing for when first breaking in this heavy duty denim.
Edwin is renowned for creating quality denim, time after time and these are no exception. Red selvage Japanese denim, branded fly button fastening and piped belt loops are just a few of the signature Edwin features in tow with the expected Edwin tab on the right rear pocket and branded leather logo waist patch. A couple nice features unique to this pair are the copper tone rivets and notably, the raised rise. Usually you'd expect to see an 8" rise on a 32" waist low rise pair of jeans, however these measure 10" leaving you tons of room that many other pairs of rigid denim jeans fail to offer initially. My only concern is that over time with expected stretching to occur as the denim breaks in that there may be too much room creating a more 'relaxed' looking fit.
Roomier denim is great when the temperature starts to turn up and so the ED-71's are a good slim yet still roomy alternative to the tapered, slim and skinnier jeans seeming to be in supply in my wardrobe. I just hope I get to give this pair the wearing it deserves!
The Edwin ED-71 Jeans reviewed here are available online from Oi-Polloi.
