Robin Chretien, owner and designer of the jeans beloved by infamous and famous celebrity as well as mortal humans {yours truly}, did not make it easy for me to get this interview. He says, he is into designing and creating and not into giving interviews! But, as you probably have noticed by now, I am quite very absolutely persistent and after meeting and talking to him several times, he finally agreed, YAY! Robin, thanks:-)

Q: Robin, what made you start your own jeans company?
RC: I began my own jeans company because I wanted to be able to express my vision, the way I see denim, which is a little bit different than just basic, which I also love. I wanted to be free to work with the people that I love.

Q: I always thought of your jeans as "hard to get" - impossible almost to find here in NYC and online. Are you thinking of opening a store here in NYC?
RC: Yes, we are opening a store in New York very soon. It's a concept store as well as a showroom in the same space.
{Methinks this is going to be my new Mecca;-)}

Q: Your best selling jeans are the Gypsy jeans - those studded and ripped jeans that you present in every new collection. While everybody is always trying to "invent" new jeans styles, you repeat the same style and always with a new wash or new details. How do you explain that these jeans have been your best sellers for 4 seasons now?
RC: I would say that the Gypsy is a top seller of our best sellers. We have many styles that are best sellers and the Gypsy is one of them because it's a different style that's very unique, very rock and roll, and not something you can easily find, like most jeans in in the Robin's Jean collection.

Q: What essential jeans should every woman have in her wardrobe?
RC: The one that fits them the best and the one that they love. There is no brand for that, but if it's Robin's Jean, I will be so happy! (smile)

Q: What are the first pair of jeans you remember?
RC: Since I was a small child, my mother, who was a dress designer, always made all of my clothing but when I was fourteen I bought myself a pair of pink velveteen flares and I wore them with tan leather boots! But my first pair of jeans were vintage patchwork flared jeans that I bought in St. Tropez, France. That day, I completely fell in love with the way the denim looked, the way the denim smelled and the way the denim becomes when you wash it. It fades and becomes even better over time.

Q: What have been your favorite pair of jeans that you have owned and why?
RC: I loved the first pair that I bought, but my favorite one is the one I wear every day to work, to go out, to travel, to live my life; my Robin's Jean. Basic skinny jeans studded, as they should be, with taste and discretion.

Q: How many pairs of jeans do you currently own and which ones do you wear the most?
RC: I have eight or ten pair of Robin's Jean but when I start one, I wear the same pair for one year because I'm so in love with it. I love the way jeans look when you wear it on a daily basis because it takes on your shape, takes on the color that you love, and it becomes you.

Q: Which is your favorite jeans shop?
RC: I love the ones where you can find every denim brand, but my favorite is the Robin's Jean store. I designed it the way that love, with the objects and decor that I love and where you can find the entire Robin's Jean line.

Q
: Who is your current favorite denim icon (male & female). I am thinking the person who has the most denim style?
RC: For the male, it's Steve McQueen, and for the female it's all the women who wear Robin's Jean. (smile)

Q: Which person living or dead would you most like to see in a pair of your jeans?
RC: There are many people dead and alive that I would love to see wearing Robin's Jean. I would love to see Steve McQueen or Marlon Brando in a pair of my jeans, but when I see a people on the street wearing my jeans, it feels so great. My son, my dad and my family are also part of that list.

Q: What are your biggest selling styles?
RC: The Marilyn is one of them for the female and for the male it's Marlon.

Q: Where are your jeans made?
RC: I came to the US because I love the US. I make jeans because it's my dream. To make jeans in the country that I love is my dream come true. Where better to make jeans than Los Angeles when your brand has angel wings ? (smile) Yes, I design, produce, and manufacture Robin's Jean in the U.S.A.

Q: Where are your jeans available besides in your stores in LA?
RC: Robin's Jean are also available at Sak's Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Nieman Marcus, specialty stores around the world and in the US, and at the Robin's Jean website, www.robinsjean.com
{Fly, Robin, Fly!!!!}

Q: What is the price range?
RC: We start at $179 retail and it goes up from there depending on the style, wash and detail involved such as embellishments and finishes.

Q
: Are the men's jeans as popular as the women's?
RC: Yes they are.

Q: How do you ensure your jeans stand out in a crowded marketplace?
RC: By staying true to my spirit and my vision of the Robin's Jean brand.

Q: What styles are going to be big next season?
RC: Come to my showroom and I will show you. (smile)

Q: Which celebs are wearing your jeans?
RC: We have many fantastic celebrities wearing Robin's Jean such as Miley Cirus, Beyonce, Ciara, Fergie, Lupe Fiasco, Nicki Minaj, Flo Rida, Paris Hilton and even Sharon Stone, Jane Fonda, Timbaland, many people in the entertainment world and most recently tattoo artist Chris Torres.

Q: Why are your jeans NEVER on sale???? HEY
RC: Because the luxury market never goes on sale. To put Robin's Jean on sale would be to devalue the craftsmanship and detail put into each pair of jeans. It's always the best quality product.
