Denimology

I LOVE this style of jean, but unfortunately for women who have larger than a size 0-4 ass, this is horrifically unflattering (which is probably why they don't sell). I have bought 2 or 3 pairs like this, just hoping they'll magically look better than I last remember them looking because I want them to work sooo badly, but alas, I am not a stick-thin model. I understand what you mean about girls only ever wearing skinnies though too. There's got to be some kind of middle ground. Whatever happened to straight leg jeans???

I so do understand how you feel. Try to pair your slouchy jeans with a more fitted top and a short blazer or jacket - it's more difficult to "dress up" these jeans than skinny:-) but give it a try if you already have them, you got nothing to loose:-)
As for straight leg, my very personal opinion is that I kinda feel that wearing straight leg is a bit like you can't decide if you want to wear skinny or bootcut if you wear stretch jeans. Now, for 100% cotton jeans, straight leg is a great option, because it is difficult to wear skinny jeans without stretch.

Love me some jeans - but I just cannot see myself doing dropped crotch. I bought a pair of Gap skinnies a few months ago and the crotch just did not fit me right - about three inches too low. It was possibly the most annoying thing ever! Slouchy/loose jeans do look cute, but I really don't even like how the dropped crotch jeans look on the model!

As Andy says in his comment - this is an acquired taste for some, maybe you are just not used to this kind of fit, but if you give it a chance, you might even come to love it, especially when you get all those compliments of looking cool:-)

I love the third ones down. I must admit that I never really think much about jeans. I don't wear them that often and find it difficult to make a statement with them unless they are a bright eye catching colour but this post is food for thought and has given me a lot of interesting, inspirational ideas for future purchases. I really only think some people can pull of the slouchy look and to me, there is such a think as too much slouch. You're right though - how many stretch skinny jeans we can have?  I can't do too slouchy but I do think I will look for a good boyfriend jean soon. Great post - found you through IFB links. I ADORE slouchy.  It was only recently that I bought my first pair of skinny jeans, but I tend to always reach for my baggier jeans.  I love that they can be dressed up or down and still look chic.  I've found your blog when we were both featured on IFB this week and I'm loving it. Are you super skinny? I usually won't wear this type of jean for fear that I look huge and sloppy. I just put on mid rise skinny jeans ( I am fully stocked) and live in fear of muffin top. Perhaps I should try these...

Hi.  I had to chime in because I have to search for and stalk drop crotch jeans as they are SO hard to find.  I carry my weight around the middle and any lower waisted jean gives me muffin top.  I love a skinny slouch because you can wear it a bit less slouchy and it eliminates muffin top.  I think anything drop crotch is extremely slimming on all shapes.  I have the R13 slouchy relaxed that is featured in the top photo, and the R13 slouchy skinny.  I'm not even into super distressed jeans right now, but bought them for the fit.  I'm seriously hoping they (or anyone else) comes out with a darker worn version without holes.  These babies are hand-distressed in Italy and I'm paying someone to patch the biggest hole.  How retarded is that??  We need more choices in this cut- come on designers!!  I also have the Current Elliott Pony Boy and the Tokyo Slim.  Not perfect, but a nice long rise.  Gap actually made a "Slouchy Skinny" a couple years back that is good.  Glad I bought 2 pairs.  Anyway, my verdict:  Slouchy, drop crotch= super slimming.

Hi Creativelicense.    I'm not super skinny either but am slim (5'8" ~120 lbs.) However, like Lisgel I also think these styles would work for a variety of figures and, in my opinion, be far more forgiving of flaws than a skinny jean would be.

To me, wearing jeans is more about the "attitude" than trying to fit in with whatever everyone else is wearing.(Kinda like a James Dean rebel attitude)  I have a few styles of jeans that the fit would not be considered "sexy"  (e.g. True Religion Cameron Boyfriend) but when you wear them you just need to "rock" em and wear them with confidence.

When wearing the unusual and not the norm in design is when I get the most compliments.   That said, I've still not tried the drop crotch style.  I'm not a spring chicken anymore and for me I personally am little afraid of it and think that style may be best left to the young.

Hey, this is not about age, but about attitude! Remember, you are only as old as you feel like and WHAT? Super skinny is ok when when you are "older", yes? you're sure? I am not. I think drop crotch comes with an attitude that is ageless.

I am not superskinny but I am not worried about that. It is not about being skinny or not. This is about DOING DIFFERENT KIND OF JEANS, instead of skinny, always skinny and stretch!

I think drop crotch jeans are an acquired taste. Now I am a denim nut and when I first saw them I hated them. I thought they looked ugly and couldn't understand why people wore them, then for some reason I started kinda liking them and now I love them. They aren't easy to wear and not all of them look great, but when they are done right then they are the epitome of cool.

Whenever I've offered up similar slouchy skinny/drop crotch design ideas at meetings, the resounding sentiment is that most "mainstream" consumers don't know how to wear these alternative fits. Skinnies sell so I'm instructed to keep designing skinnies [/end rant] :)

I consider myself a "mainstream" buyer (albeit, more like a high end denim junkie) but I just absolutely love those NSF slouchy 100% cotton jeans pictured above!  (I gotta find those and try them on!)

Lately I've been searching for 100% cotton straight leg or slouchy and they are SO hard to find.  Most jeans now have some sort of stretch in them.  In a warm humid climate there is nothing better than 100% cotton.  Plus, the 100% cotton seems to break in and fade more uniquely than the mixed fiber jeans I have.Designers, more 100% cotton please. :)  

When more slouchy and unique jeans are available, the trend setters will wear them and the mainstream herd will certainly follow.
