Here, at Denimology, we fully support denim made in the USA. Rising Sun, founded in 2006 by Mike Hodis, is located in Los Angeles and manufactures all its jeans here in the US. I would call the pieces shown in this F/W2012 collection tailored and crafted to precision. Very serious, no ripping or heavy sandwashing, this is a brand that shows its love for denim through the perfection of each and every piece. I am really awed by this brand and would love to see more of it around here soon.
Some info about this company:
- Mike Hodis merges his own personal collection of antiquated sewing machines, knowledge of fine fabric and apparel construction details of the early 1900s, and family's background in cabinetry and construction to provide a beautifully crafted product that is functional and timeless. As one of the hardest working jeans makers in America, he brings back meaning to the label "Made in America" -
"At Rising Sun, we think of ourselves as working in the early 1900's with a 21st century state of mind. We draw inspiration from master tailors of a bygone era, when good design, superior quality, and pride in your work actually mattered. Our tailors are meticulous when it comes to pattern making and sewing techniques. We work largely on turn of the century sewing machines and approach every garment with this in mind. Our garments are single needled tailored, made the old fashioned way. For us, the workmanship is crucial. It is our belief that all the small, fine details make a world of difference. We believe in crafting garments that are certain to last just like in the old days when clothes were tools that helped people provide a living and build a nation; when Made in America stood for something; when it meant your friends and neighbors had good jobs, big dreams, and they could provide a good American life for themselves and their families; when made in America wasn't just a label on a garment. It is this thinking, philosophy, and conviction that sets Rising Sun apart."
Wow, I am really impressed with Rising Sun's attitude and point of view. I so would have loved to live in those times ... (As long as I could come back to today!)
