Simon Spurr Spring 2011 Menswear
Maybe it's just me... I'm having a hard time being inspired to write about Simon Spurr's Spring 2011 collection. It's not that the line isn't beautiful... because it is. But for me, it's just another ultra-premium collection of denim, perfectly put together.
The 2 most fascinating things about this collection would be the carnation pink pair of jeans and discovering that Simon is an absolute babe.
Badgley Mischka Spring 2011 RTW Denim!
For the Spring 2011 season, fashion lines will exude the spirit of the decadent 70s. Even famed bridal designers Badgley Mischka showed interest in being included in the funky 70's denim game. Check out these beautiful high waist chambray pants and shorts from the couture fashion house. The only thing that has me wondering about all these 70's waistlines is... well poor little Jessica Simpson.
Peter Jensen Spring 2011 RTW
This season the shows at New York fashion week have completely surprised me. For instance, at the Peter Jensen show the theme was classic American. From the fabrics and shapes right through to the styling, it was clearly American sportswear from the fifties. I think that on the runway this may have looked very cutesy, but as for the everyday runway, I can't say it will work. With any luck, maybe Jensen has more to his collection that sings of the modern day rather than Doris Day.
Robert Geller Spring 2011 Menswear
In his Spring 2011 line Robert Geller clearly is inspired by the sixties and seventies. Geller even said he was inspired by the student protests of the late sixties. His dandy details and trademark jewel tones were included plus a new military feel were evident.
Now I know I have been beating this drum long and hard but does this look like the 90's to anyone else?
G-Star Raw Spring 2011 Menswear
For G-star Raw, it is not the way the jeans are worn but how the garment is cut; a tailoring option we have yet to see here in the USA . The G-Star Raw style and fit lends a certain amount of swag not available to the boys here stateside.
This season's G-Star menswear palette included shades of sandy-beige, alternated with blue and black combos. Key G-Star pieces for men are the Sinai Coat, with its zip-off back panel and cuffs, the Gobi Pant (which is also available for women) and the men's Duvet Jacket. It is quite apparent that all you gentleman will be bearing your knees and doing so in denim shorts; this makes me wonder if G-Star is attempting to prepare you gentleman for your happy 40th birthday. Hopefully we get to see my sexy boyfriend and G-Star denim devotee Tyson Beckford wearing the Duvet Jacket. He'd look so hot in it... as he does anything he wears. One more thought, I was shocked that Justin Bieber did not sit in the front row being that he is such a fan of G-Star Raw.
G-Star Raw Spring 2011 Women's RTW
For their Spring 2011 show, a Desert Denim theme anchored the NY RAW Special Edition Spring/Summer 2011 collection. The G-Star Raw show took place at the Pier 94 exhibition space during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. A single-stretch catwalk provided plenty of opportunity for guests to study the collection pieces. Because G-star gives so many fabulous denim looks we decided to split it into two posts for you.
For the ladies this season, we can expect to feel cool in lightweight, breezy chambray tops and baggy raw denim jeans. The star piece for me was their flowing Kalahari Dress which combines a rigid and fitted, raw denim bodice with a free-flowing parachute-style bottom. This collection was fresh and definitely unexpected from the usually street styled brand. That dress is on my MUST have list.
