Isabel Marant SS12
For Spring 2012, Isabel Marant dresses an earthy, sexy girl. Her girl won't be caught wearing body con dresses and layers of make-up, rather she throws on her easy going, high-end separates and hits the globe running. Jeans are always an essential part of this Marant's collection; denim came in patchwork, dip-dyed, bleached, scribble-printed and python stamped.
Dsquared² SS12 Fashion Week
Thank GOD the twins are putting on a bright, fun and exciting show again! After my less than favorable denim reviews for last season, Dsquared's brothers came back to us! Identical twin denim designers, Dan and Dean Caten held their show in Milan but took us to Glastonbury's Heineken Jammin' Festival. In the beginning of the show, the sod runway was dry, then sprinklers switched on and it turned to mud for a real festival feel! With the models stomping through the mud, U2 and Coldplay anthems played. The styling was spot on. Models were dressed in your typical denim cutoffs, plaid button-downs, skinny jeans and T-shirts accessorized with armfuls of neon wristbands, slouchy suede bags, headscarves, mirrored shades. Lest we not forget to mention the essential beverage of Glastonbury, the Heineken.
The Time I Met Diesel Black Gold's Sophia Kokosalaki
So admittedly, these pictures are not my favorite. Lisette is no master photographer but she did capture my frustration while waiting for this picture. People... reporters... kept cutting in line and pushing past us.
But in the end, all that really matters is that I took some LOVELY images of Lisette with Sophia (nudge-nudge, jab-jab Lis :D)
But seriously now, Diesel Black Gold designer Sophia Kokosalaki handled the chaos with such grace. She is a charming designer; she's not full of herself. She came off as being almost.... frightened slightly.... by the commotion around her, every one vying for her words, inspiration and design tips.
Elie Tahari Denim RTW SS12
Tahari makes commercial clothes; this man dresses the masses. You can't get around that. But he's a clever designer, always keeping things fresh on the runway. The denim looks he sent down the runway were divinely swank.
LFW Henry Holland SS12
Henry Holland's entire Spring collection was inspired by the skinhead uniform of buttoned-up shirt, suspenders, and bleached-out jeans. Humorously portrayed in giddy cotton candy-colored chiffon and python prints and denim with bleach splatters looked like happy, fluffy clouds. Holland named the peachy, preppy collection Pastel Punks.
LFW Marques'Almeida SS12
Marques'Almeida designers, Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida, cited in their show notes a "desire to capture a youth code" in their SS12 collection. They portrayed their anarchist look with gutted and frayed denim, nearly all of it bleached to stark white. Each piece appeared violently destroyed; constructed to appear gouged away. If bucking the expected was the goal, it appears these designers met their goals.
