Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2010

marc-jacobs-fall-2010-rtw-jt20.jpg

Normally Marc Jacobs gives us a touch more denim in his Marc by Marc Jacobs diffusion line. But you won't hear me complaining considering the mass variety of interchangeable, wearable pieces in the new collection. I am loving the little black zipper dress and the patchwork jeans. They are young, funky and just sweet enough to leave me with a little street cred. I'd also like to give an honorable mention to the one piece working man fit below. Look pretty cool. It's the kind of thing that G-Star and Dickies have been doing perfectly for ages. Welcome to work wear Marc!

The Proenza Schouler Fall/Winter 2010 Collection at New York Fashion Week contained their first ever pair of jeans which are a collaboration with J Brand. The high-waisted black/white and blue/white skinny jeans are made from 11oz Japanese denim which is printed, then hand-painted for extra texture and will be available in stores from mid-July.

A Better Look- Alexa Chung For Madewell

alexa-chung-for-madewell-RTW-fall-20102.jpg

We showed you some shots from the launch of Alexa Chung For Madewell and I got my fingers on images from her first collaborative effort with Madewell. What do we think? Is Alexa Chung designer material?

I think it's been said perfectly by WWD- "It" girl Alexa Chung presented her first collaboration for Madewell on Monday night at the Bowery Hotel surrounded by a sea of friends and hipsters. The collection was as sweet as can be, but not in a saccharine kind of way. The designer showed looks with a Sixties schoolgirl vibe from cute Peter Pan-collared tea frocks and cool denim dresses to shrunken preppy blazers and high-waisted short shorts. According to Chung, it was an effortless venture.

G-Star Raw Fall 2010

g-star-fall-winter-2010-colection-new-york-fashion-week-jt-440-1.jpg

I am over excited to tell you all about my experience at New York Fashion Week with G-Star Raw. But first I would like to present you with images from the show at which I was able to sit "front row". Technically my seats would not have been called front row because we did not face the main stage we faced a side stage. Fortunately for myself and the other attendees of the show, the G-Star set provided viewers with multiple runways set in a stage like setup and there was not a bad seat in the house.

G-Star delivered a stunning show of lights, a musical stomping list to groove to and a their typical fashion forward styles. Hammerstein Ballroom was the location in which they entertained us. Literally everything was exaggerated, which is typical for G-Star Raw, from the catwalk choreography to the stage-setting to their futuristic wardrobe. What was not typical with uberly oversized outerwear in attention commanding shades of green, blue, and yellow. The line's denim was there in nearly every outfit but cleverly disguised by flashy outerwear. Over all the outfits were FUN! Nothing was to be taken seriously, too literally. Behind the models, a screen flashed the phrase The good things still exist in different languages. And the music had me dancing in my seat while watching the beautiful cast stomp their way down the runway.

The denim came in all forms in jackets, shirts, trim and as traditional form jeans. The jeans although were far from traditional with washes varying from acid, waxed, shiny foiled and with interesting hem line angles.

William Rast F/W 2010 - NY Fashion Week

00280m.jpg

The William Rast Fall/Winter 2010 Show at New York Fashion Week contained less denim that we have seen on previous occasions suggesting that the brand is looking to expand their horizons. The denim that did appear on the catwalk was a little uninspiring, mostly faded blue jeans paired with either black leather or blue denim jackets. The highlight of the denim part of the collection for me was a healthy smattering of jeans featuring patterned patches.

Diesel Black Gold F/W 2010 - NYFW

32.jpg

The Diesel Black Gold Fall/Winter 2010 Show at New York Fashion Week is the first from new creative director Sophia Kokosalaki and was a little more restrained than the last few collections we have seen from them. Out goes heavily ripped and distressed denim in all shapes and sizes and in comes less attention-grabbing, more mainstream, wearable denim. I must admit I do miss some of the more outlandish denim that was seen in previous years but then from the looks of this collection I would imagine Diesel can expect healthy sales come the end of the year.
