Designer Q & A - Lou Doillon For Lee Cooper

This week's Q & A is with Lou Doillon who has just designed a collection for Lee Cooper.

1) Why do you think after 200 years jeans are still one of the most popular items of clothing?

Jeans were made because a very practical reasons, because people were looking for something easy to wash, a fabric that could have cuffs rolled up and not fall (practical), and that technically didn’t need any form maintenance.

2) Last time I counted there were over 50 brands of premium denim jeans, what makes your jeans stand out from the rest?

The cuts and shapes of the clothes are different because they were inspired by my unique family and what they wore. The designs are very close to the girl I am designing for, I am a common girl who loves to shop and buy clothes. I understand their desire to make their look their own and to be able to add their own touches to an outfit....my range benefits from Lee Cooper’s unique deal with Invista to use XFIT LYCRA ® denim, it offers a 360 degree fit and the fabric gives exceptional fit and comfort.

3) Who do you imagine is a typical customer?

Someone who shares the same quirky attitude to dressing as I do. She is young and has a different way of looking at fashion and clothes. She is not inspired by fashion magazines and likes to make a look her own.

4) Where do you get your inspiration from?

The Artful Dodger, Oliver Dickens and strong women!

Designer Q & - 7 For All Mankind

larissa.jpg
it's been a while since i did a Designer Q & A, but this week it is back with a bang as I have been lucky enough to get an interview Larissa Noble, Creative Director at the brand that really kickstarted the whole premium denim industry - 7 For All Mankind.

1. Why do you think after 200 years jeans are still one of the most popular items of clothing?

One of the greatest thing about working in the world of denim is its rich history. The history of denim spans three centuries, touching every social and economic class and countless cultures. Denim can go any place you want it to go and will continue to in the future. From work wear to couture and everything in between – it has no limits. I think denim will always remain at the forefront of fashion. What other item of clothing can be worn by so many different types of people in so many different ways?

2. Last time I counted there were over 50 brands of premium denim jeans, what makes your jeans stand out from the rest?

Denim consumers are becoming more discerning in their taste for denim. The premium denim market went through a phase where it became super-saturated with a number of new, niche brands and the premium denim consumer was overwhelmed with all of the choices at their fingertips. After experimenting with these niche brands, consumers are returning to brands that have remained steadfast in the quality of fit, fabrics and finishes. That’s why 7 For All Mankind continues to show tremendous growth – customers are staying with the brand they trust. This return to the classic brands illustrates that consumers are more concerned with quality than price.

Designer Q & A - CVRIVSTVS TRIBUTES.

chs1.jpg

This week's Designer Q & A is with Lorenzo Sannito, the founder of CVRIVSTVS TRIBUTES. And in case you were wondering - the above photo of Mr Sannito is supposed to be cropped like that!

1) Why do you think after 200 years jeans are still one of the most popular items of clothing?

I have never found a specific answer to this question. I have always thought that "poetry" was the right term to classify an authentic "jeans" and rightly so this is how I like to label it. Authentic jeans could be defined as "poetry".

2) Last time I counted there were over 50 brands of premium denim jeans, what makes your jeans stand out from the rest?

Feelings and the real value of the jeans. Emotion is what my clients feel every time they open a Christus packaging because what distinguished my jeans among others is called "emotion". Christus is not just a brand in the fashion world, but it is the making of a wearable artistic product completely hand made. In each item there is a lot of hard work done by the craftsmen and the Italian tailors that work for me; without them the "magic" would not happen.

3) Who do you imagine is a typical customer?

Today, after a year in the business, I can tell you that 90% of Christus clients are artists. As artists I mean photographers, designers, musicians, singers; it is a brand conceived for them.

Designer Q & A - Ijin Material

This week's Designer Q & A is with Phil Goss, Founder & Designer of Ijin Material Jeans.

1) Why do you think after 200 years jeans are still one of the most popular items of clothing?

Jeans & the wearing of denim has always had interesting socio-political significance & anti-styling associations from post-war demob delinquency to seventies skinhead sharp. They have always been something of a frontline item. Despite the greater acceptance of denim as an everyday fabric today , jeans still manage to be edgey & subversive if they choose to be , aswell as being trainspotter exclusive.

2) Last time I counted there were over 50 brands of premium denim jeans, what makes your jeans stand out from the rest?

Ijin material is a totally original product with an innovative approach to creating hand-made denim. The fundamental label philosophy is cutting legs in one single piece & folding them onto the body shape. Ijin material deliberately makes denim product with the clear intention of presenting the classic item in an alternative way. It is also an independent label & self financed ( - "ijin " means "outsider " or " alien" in vintage japanese.)
