Sav Style - Black Orchid High Rise Flare

IMG_0519.JPG

I'm definitely feeling the flare trend in full force these days. Brands seem to be split 50/50 in their collections between skinnies and flares (with the bootcut style also making a bit of a comeback of course, athough I'm not much of a fan of those). Black Orchid since its debut in 2008 has claimed much of the celebrity backside territory and for those of us who are spotters the stud pocket detail is a dead giveaway! Beyond that detail Black Orchid are without branding (I do like the wax like button) a fact has become a plus for me lately. Maybe I'm alone in being tired of seeing brand names all over clothes and bags, unless it is very cleverly done.

Black Orchid's "Black Beauty High Rise Flare" in Sunrise may very well be the flare we spot a lot here on Denimology. At first touch I'm immediately appreciating how soft the fabric is and my next instinct is to check for some stretch and there is some...score! 93% cotton, 5% polyester and 2% spandex maybe the perfect recipe for comfortable jeans. I hate to belabor the point that I wish I were taller but I do and these are really long flares for me so I would be investing in the $6 hem. The fit is great a 9" seems perfect, they are a skinny jean from waist to knee and then a bellowing flare from there down. There is slight fading that truly feels authentic and the 70's vibe of the fit is modernized by the studs on the back pocket. The distressing on the knee is done well - there is nothing that makes me more angry than misplaced knee damage and when I bend my leg my jeans split.

One thing I've noticed with Black Orchid their celebrity fanbase ranges from Selena Gomez to Cindy Crawford which speaks to a universally good fit that is figure flattering and comfortable. An initial marketing point in 2008 for the brand was to make great jeans at an affordable price. I'm not sure if they were gazing into a crystal ball back then but it is a plan that has payed off for them longterm.

The Black Orchid Black Beauty High Rise Flare reviewed here are available online here for $125.00.

Showing a bit of seventies flare, Katie Holmes flashes a smile for the paparazzi as she leaves her apartment in New York City carrying her Max Mara Margaux Tote. The actress wore a trench coat layered over J Brand Bette High-Rise Wide Leg Jeans in Wonderama for a day of shopping.

Galliano S/S 2011 Lookbook

Galliano_SS2011_SG.jpg

Waking up on the weekend and having some coffee while going through my favorite sites can lead to unexpected inspiration, like the S/S 2011 Galliano Lookbook. Featuring Jacquelyn Jablonski and Francisco Lachowski, the collection is the perfect balance of street chic meets high end design. All these looks are achievable for me using what I already have in my closet (with some tailoring here and there) and I especially love Galliano's nod to 80's grunge with tiara's and slip dresses. The denim and military looks are styled to perfection and definitely on my radar for upcoming outfits.

Lauren Conrad in Frankie B. Mid-Rise Jeans

Lauren_Conrad_FrankieB_SG.jpg

Lauren Conrad was spotted out in L.A. wearing my latest obsession the hot mid-rise jean! These are Frankie B. Mid-Rise Jeans in Raw which are worn perfectly with a loose top tucked in at the front and platforms. The Frankie B. "FB101" Mid-Rise in Raw wash, has the fit and comfort of their top selling leggings with a more flare leg and adjusted rise (8.5" front and 12" back). I love LC's style!

Savannah Style - J Brand "Maria" Jeans

IMG_9310.JPG

On my first day off from school this year I was fortunate enough to be able to visit the J Brand factory and spend some time with their Design and PR team. As I was shown what J Brand has coming up we all thought it would be fun to do some quick review shots and I absolutely fell in love with the high waisted J Brand "Maria " Jeans in Starless. I find high-waisted jeans can be a little hit and miss and had never felt that they were the jean for me, that was until I slipped these on. Not being fully prepared to do a photo shoot I was thrilled to swap some clothes with the staff and understand how best to wear looks the "J Brand" way (the shirt I'm wearing is from Jeff Rudes shirt line and they are lucky I didn't run off wearing it!).

Now to the fit of these jeans... this fabric is called power stretch denim and that is the perfect name as it fits like a glove and then some. With a 9" rise and a skin tight fit from top to bottom I have to admit I felt pretty bad-ass in these. I had always shied away from a high-waisted skinny jean until now because I was self conscious about how I looked from behind but because J Brand is all about the fit, the fit and the fit - I had nothing to worry about. The classic denim coloring with the tan stitching gives an almost vintage look, but make no mistake these are not your "Mom's Jeans".

While at the factory I saw many different girls wearing these jeans from thin to fuller figures, conservative styled to vintage/punk and they all looked great. If one has to draw conclusions to how J Brand has risen to the top of the denim industry it is the knack for knowing their customer, recognizing elegance lies in simplicity and ensuring that every pair that leaves the warehouse is up to J Brand standards. This means that each measurement must be consistent in each pair of jeans and yes I did meet the lady who measures each single pair of jeans before they are shipped. That is what I call attention to detail!

The J Brand "Maria" High Waisted Jeans reviewed here are available online for $198.00.
