Tribeca Fall/Winter 2011 Lookbook
Tribeca New York is a new brand from... you guessed it Tribeca New York, who are taking a new approach to the denim. There may be hundreds of companies out there producing men's jeans and denim jackets, but how many are there that have produced a denim suit, including denim shirt and tie? Tribeca are making a bold statement with this collection, and whilst the outfits might not win them a mainstream customer base, they will certainly ensure that the brand gets noticed.
Enrique Iglesias In Diesel Jeans
By rights I shouldn't like Enrique Iglesias, he is after all rich, handsome, talented and shacked up with Anna Kournikova. But despite all of that, he always seems to come across like a decent sort of chap when I have seen him interviewed on TV. The photos here were taken last week when he appeared on The Today Show in NYC performing a few of his hits and wearing a pair of super faded and distressed jeans from Diesel.
Matt Style - Natural Selection Shun Chinos
Out of all the denim I've tried on for reviews and features there was one thing I really wanted to get my hands on and test out myself, Natural Selection's Shun Chinos. I know we're big fans of the brand here at Denimology for so many reasons. Their attention to detail, heritage style construction and distressing, their fits, the denim quality....and we could go on.
After seeing images floating around the internet I was elated when they arrived in the post, however I really didn't anticipate what I was about to try on! Sure I had read the measurements and sizing but when I slipped them on it felt like I was wearing a pair of painter's trouser overalls instead of the modern incarnations of chinos we see on the streets these days.
I've noticed the majority of chinos are slim fitting, straight or tapered leg in fitting with the now popular urban and street wear scene. These stay true to the classic straight cut and in tune with the brand's ethos of implementing a heritage approach to their design.
The chinos have a number of nice features. Contrast seam stitching, classic chino pockets and of course, the selvedge detailing on the leg seam. My favourite touch is the two adjacent small leather belt clinches and the rear large belt loop ensuring the jeans remain flat to your lower spine comfortably. The buttons are exquisite on the fly and across the waist should you wish to attach braces in classic work wear fashion. I definitely couldn't do them justice with the arrangement I put on, a more rugged apparel, maybe a Pendleton or heavy denim shirt would have been a better and more suited choice.
The denim itself is a dream too. 10oz Kuroki Japanese selvage twill cotton. The images will probably describe the cut best. Imagine a classic trouser leg that drops straight from the behind to the ankle leaving loads of room around the back of the thighs and leg. The rise measures around 12" with around the same across the thigh to a leg opening of 9".
I'd love to get a pair of these but it seems everywhere is sold out, I now know why.
The Natural Selection Shun Chinos reviewed here are available online from Coggles.
Habitual Men's Collection Launches 2012
Habitual have decided that the time is right for a move into the men's denim market. In early 2012 they will launch a line which is "all about clean, modern, 'city-inspired' looks and handmade in USA craftsmanship." You can expect to see all the usual suspects (skinny, slim-straight, straight and bootcut) in colours ranging from medium indigo or dark indigo to grey and black. The detailing is all very subtle, from the contrast stitching on the waistband to the signature Glory design which appears on both the back pocket and coin pocket (shown below). Prices will start at $175 and go up to $325 for the premium selvedge versions which will hit the stores in Jan 2012.
New Levi's Workwear By Filson
One of my favourite collaborations of 2011 has been from Levi's and Filson, so I am very pleased to see that they have added another five products to the range. What I love about this collection is that it does not look in anyway contrived, they have taken the material from Filson (such as tin cloth) and combined it with designs from Levi's (such as the trucker jacket) and the end results are classic products that already look like they have been in existence for 30 years.
Brand To Watch: Gustin
Gustin and a brand new men's denim label originating out of the home of denim, San Francisco. Founded by Josh Gustin, the goal behind the brand is "to create garments that don't go out of fashion" which means "simplicity of style and intense attention." The jeans are cut and sewn in SF using quality denim from USA, Japan and Italy and will be available later this month from stockists including Confederacy, LA and AB Fits, SF.
