NSF Clothing Japanese Selvedge Denim
Occasionally I am lucky enough to receive a pair of jeans in the post from a brand that wants me to check out their product. Just last week I received a package from NSF Clothing containing a pair of their new raw denim Japanese selvedge jeans and so it would be rude of me not to let you know what I thought of them. Made from 13oz loose-weave selvedge denim what immediately grabbed me about these jeans was the cut -which is just the kind of slim straight style that I normally go for. If you like your jeans classic with subtle detailing then these bad boys are certainly worth investigating, you can find them at Ron Herman, Fred Segal and Nordstrom
Matt Style - Edwin ED-71
It's been a crazy past few weeks involving me moving house, starting a new job, travelling and being without the internet for over a month. How I've survived I have no idea.
Despite it all, the weather has been getting somewhat better and the sun is showing face meaning I can finally take some decent pictures. The latest pair I've been road testing are the Raw Red Selvage Ed71's from the denim experts, Edwin. The ED71's are slimmer fitting in comparison to the classic ED-47's but remain close it rigidity weighing in at a hefty 14 oz. The fit is a little baggy around the calf which to be honest you'll be longing for when first breaking in this heavy duty denim.
Edwin is renowned for creating quality denim, time after time and these are no exception. Red selvage Japanese denim, branded fly button fastening and piped belt loops are just a few of the signature Edwin features in tow with the expected Edwin tab on the right rear pocket and branded leather logo waist patch. A couple nice features unique to this pair are the copper tone rivets and notably, the raised rise. Usually you'd expect to see an 8" rise on a 32" waist low rise pair of jeans, however these measure 10" leaving you tons of room that many other pairs of rigid denim jeans fail to offer initially. My only concern is that over time with expected stretching to occur as the denim breaks in that there may be too much room creating a more 'relaxed' looking fit.
Roomier denim is great when the temperature starts to turn up and so the ED-71's are a good slim yet still roomy alternative to the tapered, slim and skinnier jeans seeming to be in supply in my wardrobe. I just hope I get to give this pair the wearing it deserves!
The Edwin ED-71 Jeans reviewed here are available online from Oi-Polloi.

Levi's Commuter Collection For Cyclists
Levi's have turned their attention to the urban cyclist with the launch of the Commuter Collection featuring special versions of their 511 skinny jeans and Trucker denim jacket. Levi's partnered with Schoeller Technologies AG to produce a special durable, water resistant, dirt repellant denim which was then treated with Sanitized™ (from technology-expert Clariant) to protect against odors. The jeans themselves have been redesigned to include a raised back yolk to reduce "cyclists crack", a reinforced crotch and a U-Lock storage system in the waistband. The collection will be available at select independent bike shops, Levi's stores and Levi.com from July (source: SlamXHype)
True Religion Fall/Winter 2011 Ad Campaign
I think the mark of a good ad campaign is that you can tell who is being advertised without them having to have their name on the ad. Denim fans will I am sure be able to tell straight away from the bohemian/california styling of these photos that this is an ad campaign for True Religion. Giselle may have been dropped this season and replaced with Anne Vyalitsyna but other than that this is a campaign that remains pretty consistent from year to year.
ManVsDenim.com - Arturo 1st Update
An update since my last post - The Natural Selection 14oz Smith Straight K Raw Jeans feel much smoother in the 2 months since I started wearing them. They now slip on without any struggle compared to the first couples of time, when they were still stiff and it was difficult to do-up the fly buttons. The jean's waist line also appears to have got a little bigger. I don't know whether the jeans are stretching or whether I have lost weight. The constant wear (I have them on every day, rain or shine) is starting to have an effect on the colour also, the initial deep deep indigo blue is gradually becoming lighter blue in the spots seeing the most action (around the pockets and button-fly, see photos below). This is perfect for me as it means I can still get away wearing them in a business meetings with a white shirt and black blazer without looking too informal.
