Sav Style - 7 For All Mankind Boyfriend Jeans

7ForAllMankind_SG2.jpg

These 7 For All Mankind Rickie Classic Boyfriend Jeans are possibly the greatest boyfriend jeans ever made! I know this is a bold statement but I've personally not been a fan of the boyfriend jean trend. I tend to think they aren't flattering and tend to droop in the back not flattering ones... assets. Not the case with the Rickie! From the second I slipped these on they were the old friend I didn't know I was missing! Comfortable beyond belief the denim is soft and worn without having the rips and tears that tend to make jeans fall apart after a few wears and washes. I especially love the studded detail on the inside pocket which gives a glimpse through a tear on the thigh. With the signature 7 For All Mankind stitching on the back pocket these jeans are quickly recognizable and should remain a staple for the brand.

I was pretty excited to try out my new Jeffrey Campbell shoes with these jeans. They had just arrived in the mail and pairing them with the Rickie Classic Boyfriend could be my new favorite outfit! I like the pairing of a high wedge with boyfriend jeans proportionally I think it works right. I've become a bit self-conscious of not wearing the same shoes over and over again in these reviews and have quite a thing for Jeffrey Campbell shoes, the top I snagged from my Mom (a common occurrence) and we spent the day in the beautiful summer weather we are having in Los Angeles.

If there is one thing I can stress again about these jeans is the quality of the denim and the fit. After wearing them for the afternoon there was no drooping or sagging the jeans retained their shape which is important. The fit is beyond comfortable and I really like the way they look on. I can see endless ways to dress these jeans either up or down, they are just amazing and versatile. Two thumbs up to 7 For All Mankind for the Rickie is my new favorite pair of jeans.

The 7 For All Mankind Rickie Boyfriend Jean reviewed here are available online for $225.

Savannah Style - Rich & Skinny Low Down Jeans

Rich&Skinny6.jpg

This was my second go at these Rich & Skinny Low Down Skinny in Oxidized Black jeans, I wore them out to do a photo shoot a few weeks ago and like most of us from time to time, when we look at pictures we don't always like what we see. This isn't a function of the jeans, it truly was me (and well maybe my Mom's shooting angles that weren't so flattering). It's odd how a new start and better angles can turn things around.

Rich & Skinny have a strong fan following both in the celebrity and real world. I've written celebrity sightings of their jeans and followed the brand like I do others, again I had yet to sample the goods I'd so often written about. I should start of by saying I'm not the biggest fan of this kind of wash on jeans. The rise on these is 7.5" and I am used to a lower rise (I see a difference between intended high-waisted jeans and a high rise in jeans I prefer a lower rise or high-waisted jeans that hit my waist) the higher rise mixed with a lower pocket made me feel that my backside looked well, square. Now not that I want to draw attention to it but that is the issue I am having. That aside, these jeans are super soft and like most skinny jeans have a nice amount of give (elastin) to them, they are super comfortable and fit true to size. The length is really good and the tapering on the leg is also great (often I find skinnies can be cut too wide or too slim in the leg). I like the unadorned pockets and the Rich & Skinny signature grommet on the fly is a nice detail.

I chose to wear one of my favorite go-to brands Free People for both the t-shirt and jacket. This batwing t-shirt and sequin jacket are two of my regular items (although I will say the sequins on my jacket are dangerous and can cause scratches to my arms and neck) and the way the shirt draped down a bit worked well proportionally. As always I went for heels, the black shoe boot trend is still going strong and I've gotten so much wear out of these Steve Madden shoe-boots it's unreal (and as is often the case I bought them second hand for a bargain). I'm back to homework and my online classes and look forward to my next review.

The Rich & Skinny Low Down Skinny Jeans in Oxidized Black reviewed here are available at Revolve Clothing for $185.00.

Savannah Style - J Brand Leggings In Viper

IMG_2690.jpg

Getting dressed to do these reviews is a huge deal. Well, getting dressed right for these reviews is a huge deal to me I should say. I had the great opportunity to meet and get to know the people from J Brand over the last year having covered L.A.'s Fashion Night Out and found them to be incredibly nice, welcoming, creative and supportive. They didn't have to be so nice to me, I'm no Anna Wintour in the fashion world, just a 15 year old girl with a dream of working in the fashion industry.

The jean legging (or jegging) has been a trend every major brand has jumped on in the past year. Buyers are finding this style to be one of the "must haves" even in tough economic times. J Brand can be found on every major celebrity, the cut of their jeans is timeless and I have to say J Brand has fascinated me with their collaborations with Hussein Chalayan, Henry Duarte and the upcoming Proenza Schouler collection. Always a fresh take on denim comes from these collaborations and raises the bar of what we as consumers expect from our denim.

Up until now I have yet to try on a pair of J Brand jeans. I have been obsessed with the J Brand Oz jean of last year, I thought it was beautiful and the darkness of the tie-dye gave a richness to the jeans. I always wanted to buy a pair and haven't yet, so this opportunity to try out the new J Brand Low-Rise Legging in Viper was something I looked forward to.

First, these have an amazing sheen to them that could do very well dressed up or casual. They have some lycra so I found them to be super comfortable and the slight crinkling in the fabric gives a great look when on. These jeans have a false pocket on the front which is great particularly with jeggings so there are no lines or puckering of the pocket. Also they have such a nice stretch to them that they retain their shape and don't bag. I'm quite taken with the wrinkling effect of the jeans especially below the knee, the wash of the fabric doesn't completely make these look like denim although they are and definitely have the comfort of denim, they look more like a cross between pleather and leather. Something I've always found interesting with J Brand is that they go without any major pocket decoration, yet continue to come up with new styles, washes and cuts that keep people updating their wardrobe. This does allow for a consumer to wear J Brand jeans multiple times without people taking notice. These are the kind of jeans you wear often because they really do go with everything.

Now on to the tough part... what to wear with them? I'm part of something called The Intelligence Group (this is not a reflection on my intelligence at all btw) it's the trend marketing division of CAA (Creative Artists Agency) where gen y's, z's and millenials like my self talk and blog about trends, how we get information on music, products, films and pop culture in general. I had to go to CAA to a trend panel and speak in front of some clients of theirs so I was already nervous and wanted to look my best. I chose the J Brand Leggings and paired them with a reconstructed military jacket of my Mom's (yes you can call me a closet raider). I also chose my Costume National boots again and forgive me if you've seen them before but they go with everything and give me the extra lift I like to have.

I overcame any nerves and spent quite a bit of time at the meeting talking about how important blogging has been to me. Writing for Denimology was a huge topic of interest to the people there both in terms of my own personal growth and also how websites like this one are influencing fashion trends and taking front row seats at Fashion Week around the world.

CAA is by a mall so my Mom hung out there while I went to my meeting and came and met me when I was done, we walked around and did a bit of window shopping. I love Louis Vuitton, their window displays are always so creative this bird cage installation was stunning and I had to pop into Sephora to check out the new Tarina Tarantino make-up which like all things Tarina is sparkly!

The J Brand Low-Rise Legging in Viper reviewed here are available from online from $217.

Savannah Style - Siwy Hannah Jeans

IMG_2238.jpg

Since they came out the Siwy Hannah Jean has been seen on nearly every starlet around the world. We've had sightings on Denimology of Kim Kardashian, Kate Beckinsale, Ashley Tisdale to Kate Moss! So I was really excited to give these jeans a try having seen the versatility in the outfits that these women have worn with the same jeans gave me inspiration!

It has been raining for days on end in Los Angeles and this is a city that is ill prepared for a little rain let alone non-stop rain. So first chance of sun I slipped on the Siwy Hannah Jeans in Jet Obsidian and topped it off a Whitney Eve jacket that I love and my Guess heels. I have to admit to you I actually love these jeans they hit me exactly at the bottom of my ankle, not to long or too short. The fabric is thick with a little bit of give so I was quite comfortable sitting and moving around in them, they didn't bag or sag after a days wear. I've tried on distressed jeans before that I felt one washing and they would of disintegrated, this isn't the case with the Siwy jeans. My dog Bella even got in on the picture taking, she's such a ham and knows the camera loves her!

These reviews have also been an education for me in fit and sizing of jeans. Before this I hadn't expanded my denim routine outside of a few brands that I knew fit me well. I'm a solid 25 yet some brands fit in the waist and not elsewhere, or not at all. Siwy has solid sizing these fit me perfectly and I'm going to put this out there again, they were incredibly comfortable and I liked that I could dress them up and still have a bit of edge to my outfit with the distressed look.

The sad news to this is the sun went behind a cloud shortly after these pictures were taken and it rained for a few more days. But we need it in L.A. and I know I shouldn't complain given the blizzards and storms or duress others suffer because of the elements. Los Angeles is denim central and Siwy is part of that culture. You can be at The Chateau Marmont or at In-N-Out Burger and see women wearing Siwy Jeans and that's a compliment to the brand and it's designer Michelle Siwy. You can wear her jeans no matter what your look is and I now understand her loyal following!

The Siwy Jeans Hannah Skinny in Jet Obsedian featured in this review are available from RevolveClothing for $185.

Savannah Style - Hellz Bellz Marine Jeans

IMG_1885.jpg

Doing this feature post for Denimology is a great opportunity for me to try out looks I otherwise wouldn't in my normal day-to-day dressing. I've been a fan of Hellz Bellz for a few years, they make some of my favorite t-shirts but I've yet to try any "street-style" denim.

I usually stay with skinny jeans and this was the first time I had worn baggier pants of any kind. Hellz Bellz gave me the opportunity to sample a pair from their upcoming Spring/Summer collection I was really taken with these black and white jeans called "Marine".

When I thought about what to wear with them it was a different consideration for me, I had bought this bustier at Urban Outfitters and paired it with the Hellz "Dictator" windbreaker with studs, which I am obsessed with. It took a bit of figuring out what shoes worked best. I felt I needed the extra lift and after tucking the jeans under (I'm 5'4") I went with my Costume National boots for some extra height.

All in all, I have to say after shooting these pictures I was really comfortable in the jeans. Again, this is a really new look for me and like a new haircut or color I had to adjust what I thought my look was. They are lightweight, super comfortable and in a funny way I felt like I was a little bit tougher while wearing them.

I want to thank my Mom who takes these pictures for me, I probably wouldn't be as comfortable in front of the camera if it was anyone else, plus she bankrolls my shopping and I appreciate that. I shop at a lot of second hand and vintage stores (I got my Costume National boots at Buffalo Exchange they had never been worn and weren't expensive) we're not rich by any means but fashion means everything to me.

Savannah Style - Frankie B. BFF Leggings

Savannah_Frankieb_SG4.jpg

My name is Savannah, I'm a 15 year old sophomore in high school, I live in Los Angeles and have been writing for Denimology for over a year. I absolutely love fashion and hope one day to be able to pursue it as a career. I'm going to be writing a regular column here where I take a look at and try out the newest denim and explore the upcoming trends.

The denim legging (or jegging) trend which was so big at the end of last year looks set to continue well into 2010, so I was really excited when I got a pair of Frankie B. Denim Leggings in Swan Blue! I wanted these because they are lightweight and have the perfect amount of lycra making them feel like a pair of jeans I've had for years. They are so soft, comfortable and easy to wear with everything from over-the-knee boots (one of my favorite trends) to high-tops, the clean lines make my legs look long and the unadorned back pocket is great because I can wear them with different looks and don't feel like it's noticeable I'm wearing the same jean over and over.

sav_IMG_1703.jpg

I've worn these jeans so much since I got them and even wear them during my P.E. elective which is Pilates, they are truly like a cotton legging and are that comfortable! These Frankie B. BFF Leggings run around $143 and I know I will be getting my money's worth from them as they can be worn in cool weather with boots or during the summer they will be great with a light top and flip flops.

I'm wearing them here with a pair of Thomas Wylde over-the-knee boots that I had wanted for the longest time and was thrilled beyond belief that my Mom (Yes I said Mom, I'm 15) was able to pick me up a pair at the TW sample sale (savings: a cool $1,100).

As for my capulet, I'm big on vintage. My Dad bought me this to-die-for vintage mink on Etsy for a bargain. I just love wearing it regardless of the Los Angeles weather that continues to be in the 70's during the day (though it does cool off at night).

Doing this regular piece for Denimology is exciting for me, I look forward to trying out new trends and touching base with some of the big brands on what is popular now and new looks and styles. Living in Los Angeles is great for many reasons we have a large majority of the denim brands manufacturing here and writing for Denimology has been a great opportunity for me to meet so many people who have encouraged me to pursue my dreams! I will be doing these features every two weeks and thank everyone who supports and encourages this budding fashionista!
