Denim Accessories Go Designer

Louis Vuitton Monogram Denim Mules

Who would have imagined when denim was first made into workwear jeans back in the 19th century that over 100 years later it would have ended up being turned into high end designer accessories by the likes of Burberry, Miu Miu and Dolce and Gabbana. You can now get everything from shoes and purses to motorcyle helmets and diaper bags. I guess the only thing now stopping you dressing head to foot in denim is the current lack of denim underwear.

Levi's Top Denim Brand Loyalty League

lv1.jpg
Yesterday I posted an item disagreeing with an article in the Guardian concerning Levi's decline. Well it seems like I am not the only one who still thinks Levi's still has plenty of legs in them. A "Customer Loyalty Engagement Index" study carried out by Brand Keys found that when they questioned 3000 people aged between 18-60 about their "loyalty bond" to a particular pair of jeans the brand that came out top was Levi's. Here is the full list:
1) Levis
2) Joe's Jeans
3) True Religion
4) Wrangler
5) Tommy Hilfiger
6) Diesel
7) Guess
8) Rock & Republic
9) Gap
10) Lucky

Has Levi's Got The Blues?

An article in the business section of today's Guardian newspaper looks at the Levi's and how their market share is being squeezed. At the cheaper end of the market they are competing with budget supermarket brands which are selling their own-label jeans for as little as £3, whilst the top end of the market where jeans cost over £100 is overcrowded with trendy premium labels. This article isn't really saying anything new, journalists have been predicting Levi's demise since the late-ninties and they are still going stong. They may not be selling as much as they used to or have amazing growth of other younger companies but they still the kind of revenues and iconic status that other companies would kill for.
