Spring 2010: Country Influenced Denim

According to WWD.com, the trend for sportswear in 2010 will take on a country theme, with worn-in and faded denim, plaid shirts and straw accessories. I was JUST in Nashville, darn it, I should have picked up a pair of cowboy boots! Some of WWD's picks of popular styles to come are featured below. Can you see this prediction taking off?
Levi's 501XX 1947 Model
Levi's Japan have released a great looking pair of vintage reproduction 501s based on their 1947 model. As well as an authentic faded wash the jeans feature patches and repair stitching both of which look set to be big in 2010. The jeans are available online from Levi's site in Japan for 49,350 YEN which if my currency converter is correct translates to a hefty $550.

Lee Originals: The Archives S/S10

Lee Originals: The Archives is the vintage reproduction dept of Lee and for Spring/Summer 2010 they are recreating the famous Lee Rider 101Z jeans that were worn by James Dean in the movie Giant. The orignal jeans were actually sold at auction in October 2006 for $35,850.00, but you can expect to pay closer to £200 for a pair of the reproductions which will be available in selected stores (including Oki-Ni) across Europe shortly.
Marilyn Monroe & The Misfits In Denim
TheSelvedgeYard is rapidly becoming one of my favourite denim related blogs. This week they have a great article about the movie The Misfits which starred Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift plus a selection of fabulous denim such as the Lee Storm Rider jacket shown above.
A History Of Denim By TheSelvedgeYard
Anyone interested to know a little about history on denim then I recommend you check out this piece from the TheSelvedgeYard which as well being very informative features some great photos of Bing Crosby (famous for his denim tuxedo), Montgomery Clift (shown above wearing a pair of Lee Riders), John Wayne and Steve McQueen.
75 Years of Women's Levi's Denim
We thought our readers might enjoy some vintage pictures displaying over 75 years of history from Levi's denim. What a long way we've come, and yet the classic brand is still as fashionable as ever.
